【摘要】:1.1ThisStandardspecifiesamethodmeasuringsmokeproductionfromtheexposedsurfaceofspecimensofessentiallyflatmaterials,compositesorassembliesnotexceeding25mminthicknesswhenplacedinahorizontalorientationandsubjectedtospecifiedlevelsofthermalirradianceinaclosedsinglechamber(hereafterreferredtoas"chamber")withorwithouttheapplicationofapilotflame.Thismethodoftestisap-plicabletoallplasticsandmayalsobeusedfortheevaluationofothermaterials(e.g.rubbers,textile-coverings,paintedsurfaces,woodandothermaterials).1.2Itisintendedthatthevaluesofopticaldensitydeterminedbythistestbetakenasspecifictothespecimenorassemblymaterialintheformandthicknesstested,andarenottobeconsideredinherent,fundamental,properties.1.3Thetestisintendedprimarilyforuseinresearchanddevelopmentandinfiresafetyengineeringofbuildings,trains,ships,etc.,andnotasabasisforratingsforbuildingcodesorotherpurposes.Nobasisisprovidedforpredictingthedensityofsmokethatmaybegeneratedbythematerialsuponexposuretoheatandflameunderother(actual)exposureconditions,norisanycorrelationestablishedwithmeasurementsderivedfromothertestmethods.Thistestprocedureexcludestheeffectofirritantsontheeye.NOTE:Thistestprocedureaddressesthelossofvisibilityduetosmokedensity,whichgenerallyisnotrelatedtoirritancypotency,asexplainedinISO5659-1.1.4Itisemphasizedthatsmokeproductionfromamaterialvariesaccordingtotheirradianceleveltowhichthespecimenisexposed.Inmakinguseoftheresultsofthismethod,itshouldbeborneinmindthattheresultsarebasedonexposuretothespe-cificirradiancelevelsof25kW/mand50kW/m.
